SGS certificates Ladrillerías Mallorquinas S.A. s Energy Management System
SGS gave last July the Energy Management System Certification, based in UNE 216301:2007 regulation, to Ladrillerías Mallorquinas S.A. The Balearic company, which already has SGS certifications regarding their Quality Management and their Environmental Management systems, means the first organization certificated under such standard by SGS, and the second one in the whole of Spain.
Energy management UNE 216301:2007 regulation encourages energetic efficiency in the company, energetic saving and the reduction of the emission of gases provoking the “greenhouse effect”.
Founded in 1948, Ladrillerías Mallorquinas S.A. is the main manufacturer in the Balearic Islands for ceramic products destined for building purposes, and has state-of-the-art and automated technology for high production levels. The company is also a producer of “special regime” electric energy via two 3500 Kw continuous cogeneration plants. Both electrical and thermal energy produced is used in the manufacturing process, as well as selling to the public their electrical surplus.
Regarding their raw materials, the organization exploits two quarrys with wide reserves in the subsoil ensuring their production for the next fifty years. It also has heavy machinery equipment for the clay process in their facilities, used for open-air soil displacement.
In 2005 they implemented a gasification process, destined for the use of natural gas as energy for their 3 production lines as well as the cogeneration. The company has been the first and also the only one in the Balearic Islands to use such energy.
The distribution and selling process of their products covers the whole Mallorca Island on a daily basis via a fleet of crane trucks, as well as Ibiza and Menorca via heavy vehicles shipped from Palma and Alcudia ports.
For the company, an efficient environmental management has turned in the last decades, from an element to set them apart from their competitors, to a core need to maintain their business in a competitive market economy environment.
Also, there is a continuous increase in the number of organizations aware that an efficient energy consumption, as well as the use of alternative and less aggressive for the environment energies, are some of the right measures in order to contribute to the reduction of “greenhouse effect” gases emissions.
