SGS Participates in Recycle the Law 10 98 and Manage the Waste Management New Regulation Project
SGS develops the project “RECYCLE The Law 10/98 and MANAGE the Waste Management New Regulation" for the Recuperation and Recycling Spanish Federation (FER) via Fundación Biodiversidad’s Programa Emplea Verde, part of the European Social Fund’s “Adaptación y Empleo” Pluriregional Operational Programme.
The project aims to inform the environmental sector’s professionals, mainly those participating in the waste management and secondary raw materials recuperation, on the “Law 22/2011” waste management regulation: to reduce the negative effects caused by waste generation and management on the human health and the environment, to reduce the use of resources and to support the practical application of waste hierarchy.
The project is pioneering in the integration of preventive measures, waste reutilization and recycling and, according to waste management regulations, trying to increase transparency and both economic and environmental efficiency in the waste management activities, promoting the recuperation and recycling sector’s sustainability.
Such project encompasses nine interrelated actions: three in-classroom courses in Madrid, Murcia and Cantabria: "An overview on management of the different types of waste to be operated in metal recycling plants, particularly to RAEEs", a seminar in Madrid: "The New 22/2011 Waste Regulation", a Guide, a diptych and interactive material comprehending the updates and key practices to perform a proper application of the new waste and polluted soils’ Regulation.
Additionally, the project’s website focuses on each of the actions and also offers newsletters and FAQ with the help of a Remote Technical Support department destined to FER’s associates and future Waste and Secondary Raw Materials sector’s professionals. This technical support provides technical assistance for the proper application of the new waste regulation, the creation of new companies in the recuperation and recycling sector and the implementation of measures to reduce waste through their efficient treatment for their reutilization and recycling.
Project’s Execution Length: November 2001 – October 2012.
