Last February 26th took place at Teruel a Training Seminar on Labor Road Safety organized by Instituto Aragonés de Seguridad y Salud Laboral (ISSLA) and SGS.

The seminar was hosted by Teruel’s Labor Security and Hygiene Head Office Director (ISSLA TERUEL), Joaquín Ramo Maícas, SGS Tecnos’ Industrial H&S Development Manager, Teresa Ruiz-Escribano Taravilla, SGS Teruel’s H&S Area Manager, Víctor Muñoz Gómez and SGS Zaragoza's Health and Safety Coordinator, Esteban Escudero Jalle.

This seminar was organized as a response to the demanding need to make road safety a core part of the health and safety-related actions implemented within the organizations. Through the seminar came clear the importance of preventing traffic accidents using the same tools and with the same monitoring system than other types of accidents.

Joaquín Ramo exposed the situation in Teruel’s region regarding accident rates, particularly regarding traffic occupational accidents, where, just like in other regions, the rate of these types of accidents compared to the total amount of occupational accidents is remarkable, reaching 44% in the most serious (mortal) cases.

The group of actions to implement the traffic accidents prevention was shown in the seminar via three axes:

  • Driver or human factor
  • Vehicle
  • Other environmental factors

A review of the Social Security and Labor Inspection Guide related to occupational road safety, a guide that provides important actions to perform, was shown to those attending the seminar.

The Mobility Plans implementation as a tool to be used within a working space was also reviewed, in order to provide the organizations with the necessary measures to prevent traffic accidents as well as other actions aimed at environmental and economical sustainability.

The seminar was attended by representatives from the main organizations in the region, as well as occupational accidents and diseases’ mutual insurance companies and trade unions, involved in the health and safety prevention within the organizations.
