The 3rd European Summit on Health & Safety in the wind energy sector on 12th March was held in Barcelona during the EWEA 2014 Annual Congress. During the events SGS conducted a seminar about good practices in accident investigation and how these practices could be useful for the wind energy sector.

The summit presented and discussed the best practices throughout the life cycle of the wind energy farms with the presentations from service providers, energy producers, wind turbine manufacturers, regulators, occupational risk prevention professionals and Spanish and European wind energy associations.

Some of the most relevant topics were the modification of the EN 50308 standard (Wind turbines, Protective measures, requirements for design, operation and maintenance) and Health & Safety training requirements in the wind energy sector. Special attention was paid to LOTO procedures (Lockout-Tagout) for electrical maintenance works and the minimum training requirements according to the GWO standard. This industrial standards cover work at height, fire hazards, first aid, manual handling and survival in the sea.
