On July 6 and 7, 2009, the “Second Latin American Meeting on Transparency in the Third Sector: Transparency - A Practical Asset” took place in Madrid. The event was organized by the Third Sector Observatory (Observatorio del Tercer Sector) of Catalonia, Spain, in collaboration with the Institute for Communication and Development (Instituto de Comunicación y Desarrollo) of Uruguay, and supported by Spain’s Foreign Office Secretary of State and Fundación La Caixa.

At the event, transparency and accountability issues in the third sector were discussed by Spanish donor organizations with other groups from various countries in Latin America.
In the roundtable session named “Assessment Mechanisms for Transparency,” SGS analyst Lorena Mumenthaler discussed NGO benchmarking, as well as third sector audit methodologies and good practices especially designed for NGOs by SGS.

Other participants of the roundtable discussion were: Maria Luisa Gómez (Plataforma de ONG de Acción Social), Carolina Jiménez (Fundación Lealtad), and Rosa Inés Ospina (Transparencia por Colombia).
