The Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña - UPC) joined "Girl's Day," a day of contemplation and debate on the role of women in the world of science and technology. SGS also participated in the event. Entitled "Science & Technology: A World Without Women?," the debate was held on December 2, 2009 at the University Assembly Hall in Barcelona.

UPC created a debating environment, allowing participants to share different perspectives on a single concept - the world of science and technology from a gender point of view.
Two panel discussions took place, revealing the advantages and inconveniences that women experienced in the science and technology environment. In the first table, the academia and the business sector debated on the equality of opportunities in the professional world. In the second table, students expressed their opinions on what it was like to be a woman and to be studying in UPC.

The debate is part of the Girl’s Day international initiative, aiming to bring science, technology and research closer to ESO and Bachillerato students. This was achieved by portraying women in relevant roles in the world of business and research.
