Servicio de Desarrollo del Medicamento Achieves ISO 9001 Certification
Servicio de Desarrollo del Medicamento (SDM), pharmacy technologies prototype plant for Barcelona’s University Pharmacy Faculty, has achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification by SGS for the developed services, as recognition of the efforts taken by the technical and human staff working in SDM since their foundation in 1996.
Servicio de Desarrollo del Medicamento’s prototype plant has 460 m2 located in one of the wings in the Pharmacy Faculty (building A), with an area destined for quality control and others to research, development, design and elaboration of drugs, as well as registration and quality warranty areas.
The centre, conducted since its inception by Prof. Dr. Josep Mª Suñé Negre, besides pre-grade and post-grade training duties (with more than 400 attendants per year), achieved integration in CIDEM’s technological innovation network in 2000, being one of the college centers that remained there, complying all progressive quality and excellence requirements. The network aims to promote technological transferal activities and to create a unique quality brand (XIT brand), recognizable by the business sector, to contribute to strengthen Catalunya’s and Spanish economic framework’s competitiveness.
As logical evolution, and as part of the centre’s continuous improvement philosophy (applying GMP since their creation for lecturing and researching objectives), SDM projected in 2006 to get ISO 9001:2000 certified, with support from Barcelona’s University Pharmacy Faculty deanship
The human team involved in the project encompasses 25 employees amongst grant holders, collaborators, technicians and lecturers, whose conscious involvement in the application of total quality in the system and day-to-day performance made possible the achievement of ISO 9001:2000 certification.
