Last July 18th marked the official end of Dow Chemical’s takedown in their Tarragona’s refinery plant in which, during 52 days and a total investment of €60m, more than 35.000 working requests have been performed with an average data of 1.550 people/day and highest numbers as  2.200.

During it, SGS has performed the inspection in service via advanced ultrasounds (TOFD and PHASE ARRAY) and the quality assurance in the equipment used by petro-chemical company Dow Chemical in order to ensure the proper procedures of takedown activities and to avoid delays in the reactivation processes and to extend such reactivation to periods of 8, demanding higher feasibility in their interventions and the equipments return to operational mode.

SGS has collaborated during more than 8 months with a team of 15 technicians surveying the different disciplines (electrical, mechanical, rotational, radiographs, etc.), performing the following activities:

  • Prior Execution phase
    • Quality Plans
    • Inspection Points Plans (PPI’s)
    • ‘Hold Points’ (points /critical activities)
  • During the execution (pre-fabrication and execution)
    • On field verification of compliance to the quality plan
    • Reporting of deviations (Non conformities)
    • Return to Operation Management / Control
  • Post-execution phase
    • Quality Dossier (Documentation)
    • Quality Assurance Guidelines

The service provided by SGS has been rewarded with Dow’s recognition to our technicians’ performance.
